For chili sauce lovers, be aware of the dangers of consuming too much spicy food

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Consuming spicy food has become an inseparable part of culinary culture in various parts of the world, including in Indonesia. However, consuming spicy food excessively can cause various health problems that you need to be aware of.

One of the negative impacts of consuming too much spicy food is digestive disorders. The capsaicin content in chilies can stimulate excessive production of stomach acid, causing irritation of the stomach wall and increasing the risk of gastritis or stomach ulcers. Symptoms such as heartburn, nausea and flatulence often appear due to excessive consumption of spicy food.

In addition, excessive consumption of spicy food can affect skin health. Excessive exposure to capsaicin may cause allergic reactions in some individuals, such as rashes, itching, or redness of the skin. For those with sensitive skin, excessive spicy consumption can worsen skin conditions and trigger inflammation.

It is important to consume spicy food wisely and according to each body’s tolerance. If you experience digestive symptoms or skin reactions after consuming spicy food, it is recommended to reduce your spicy intake and consult a medical professional for appropriate treatment.

Negative impacts of excessive spicy consumption

1. Digestive disorders

Consuming excessive amounts of spicy food can trigger digestive disorders, such as heartburn and diarrhea. The capsaicin compound in chilies can speed up bowel movements, which risks causing diarrhea. In addition, irritation of the stomach wall due to spicy food can increase stomach acid production, triggering pain and flatulence.

2. Acid reflux and ulcers

For individuals with a history of ulcers, consuming spicy food can worsen the condition. Spicy food can trigger stomach acid to rise into the esophagus, causing a burning sensation and increasing the risk of gastritis or acute ulcers.

3. Sleep disorders (Insomnia)

Eating spicy food before bedtime can increase body temperature and cause uncomfortable feelings in the stomach, such as bloating or heartburn. This condition can disrupt sleep quality and cause insomnia.

4. Decreased tongue sensitivity

Exposure to spicy foods too often can cause a decrease in tongue sensitivity. This makes the tongue less sensitive to taste, so individuals may have difficulty determining the level of spiciness that can be tolerated.

5. Irritation of the skin

Apart from affecting digestion, consuming spicy food can also cause the skin to become red. The capsaicin in chilies stimulates the dilation of blood vessels, so the skin appears reddish, especially on the face.

Although spicy food has health benefits if consumed in moderation, excessive consumption can cause various health problems. Excessive spicy food can cause digestive disorders, such as stomach irritation or other digestive tract disorders.

Therefore, it is important to limit your intake of spicy foods according to your individual body’s tolerance. This aims to maintain digestive health and overall quality of life. By consuming spicy food wisely, we can get its benefits without causing risks to our health.
