Recipe for Pandan Ginger Wedang, a warm drink when it rains


KOMPAS.com – Ginger wedang is the perfect drink to enjoy when it rains, or when you want to warm up your body which is starting to feel like you’re suffering from a cold.

The ingredients needed for this recipe include red ginger, secang wood, pandan leaves and basil seeds. One serving of this drink contains approximately 78 calories.

The following is the recipe and method for making pandan ginger tea, quoted from the book “The Aroma of Indonesian Culinary Flavors: Warm Wedang” by Lilly T. Erwin (2010) published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama.

Material:

  • 1 handful of secang wood
  • 100 grams of granulated sugar
  • 2 pandan leaves
  • 100 grams fresh red ginger (bruised)
  • 25 grams of basil seeds (soak in 100 milliliters of warm water)
  • 1 liter of water
  1. Cook water, ginger, sugar, pandan leaves, and secang wood in a pan until it boils, turns red, and smells like pandan.
  2. Pour 1/5 of the soaked basil into serving glasses or serving cups. Pour the ginger and coconut mixture. Serve while warm.
