How to Cook Brown Rice to Make it Fluffier, Different from White Rice

KOMPAS.com – Brown rice is often the main choice for those who want to follow a healthy diet.

Known to be lower in sugar content than white rice, brown rice is often recommended for losing weight and maintaining a healthy body.

However, many people feel that brown rice is not fluffier and a bit hard, especially for those who are just trying it.

No need to worry, there are several simple ways to make brown rice taste fluffier and more delicious like white rice. Here are the complete tips:

1. Pay attention to the measurements and use more water

Like cooking white rice, brown rice must also be washed thoroughly first. However, the main difference lies in the amount of water used.

For fluffier results, use a 3:1 ratio of water and brown rice (3 glasses of water for 1 glass of brown rice). This technique makes brown rice cook perfectly so that the texture is softer and easier to enjoy.

You can cook it in a steamer or rice cooker. Both are equally effective as long as the amount of water is sufficient.

2. Mix with white rice, but pay attention to the water dosage

If you have just switched from white rice to brown rice, mixing these two types of rice could be a solution.

Use a ratio of 1:2, namely 1 part brown rice and 2 parts white rice. The amount of water used remains adjusted to the amount of brown rice, which is a little more.

This method helps the tongue adapt to the texture of brown rice without sacrificing its taste and softness. Gradually, you can reduce the portion of white rice until you are completely used to brown rice.

3. Keep brown rice warm

Once cooked, immediately transfer the brown rice to the rice cooker if you cooked it by steaming.
