3 Ways to Clean and Store Knives in the Kitchen


KOMPAS.com – Knives are important tools used in the kitchen, so that they remain sharp you need to pay attention to how to store them.

Before storing, the knife must be cleaned of stains so that they do not spread to the food being cut.

Especially from sap stains and fishy smells after cutting meat or seafood, here’s how to clean and store the following knives.

1. Remove sap stains on the blade

When cutting gummy fruit or vegetables, the knife becomes stained with sap. The following method is easy to clean a knife that is stained with sap.

Take cooking oil then rub it on the knife that is stained with sap. Leave it for a few moments until the oil is absorbed into all the sap stains.

Wash the knife using soap as usual, then rinse.

2. Eliminates the fishy smell on the knife

Fish or chicken will leave an amnis smell on the knife used for cutting. Use toothpaste to remove the fishy smell.

To apply toothpaste to a knife that smells fishy, ​​use a slice of lime.

3. How to store knives

If it is not used for a long period of time, it is a good idea to store the knife properly. Good storage will make the knife durable and long-lasting.

Wash the knife and wipe it dry, then coat the knife with a thin layer of cooking oil.

Absorb excess oil with a tissue while rubbing lightly, wrap the knife blade tightly in newspaper and store it in a safe place.
