Criollo, an all-chocolate restaurant in Jakarta that offers a savory menu


JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Chocolate is synonymous with sweet taste. This time, chocolate lovers can enjoy a new menu innovation in the form of processed chocolate with a savory taste at Criollo by Crio.

Owned restaurant master chocolatier Richie Pratadaja, owner of Criollo, is located on the 4th Floor of Plaza Indonesia, Central Jakarta.

“Criollo was inspired by cocoa beans. The design of the restaurant, from the outside is red, when you enter it is white, and the tables and chairs are shaped (in color) like chocolate beans,” said Richie at the opening of Criollo, Tuesday (3/12/2024).

Richie is not alone. He inaugurated his newest restaurant together with his partner William
Cecario as Chef de Cuisine and Angling Darma as Head Mixologist last Wednesday (27/11/2024).

Previously, Richie opened the Crio restaurant in Menteng, Central Jakarta, with a food concept focused on a Western-style menu.

Criollo was then born from Richie’s desire to explore Indonesian food further through various chocolates.

No longer based on a typical Western food menu, Criollo by Crio instead offers a variety of typical Indonesian dishes with a touch of good quality chocolate.

Menu fusion di Criollo by Crio includes cauliflower with a chocolate sauce inspired by gado-gado, steak with andaliman chocolate sauce inspired by typical Batak food, and chicken sausage with chocolate sauce.

“The types of chocolate we use are different because chocolate is like coffee, the aroma and taste are different,” said Richie.

It took months for Criollo to combine the right type of chocolate with his savory dishes.

“Chocolate contains its own fat and other ingredients. It’s not that easy to cook because if you cook it too long, the chocolate can burn,” he continued.

The price of savory food at Criollo by Crio is sold individually (a la carte) with prices starting at IDR 90,000 and set menus for IDR 800,000.

The chocolate savory set menu at Criollo by Crio consists of six dishes and one drink choice.

If you are interested in trying the set menu of savory chocolate dishes, guests must make a reservation three days in advance via WhatsApp or Instagram @criollo.jkt.
