Jakarta –
Consuming tea can be relied on to get rid of stubborn excess belly fat. The following types of tea have been scientifically proven to help fight belly fat.
Tea contains flavonoids and catechins which have many healthy benefits, including shedding fat in the body. Consumption can also support overall health, such as reducing the risk of heart disease and cancer.
For those who are on a diet or want to reduce belly fat, consuming certain types of tea can help. Here’s the list:
1. Green tea
Based on a study published in 2022, participants who drank green tea had a 44% lower risk of obesity. Meanwhile, research in 2008 found that obese participants who regularly consumed green tea lost more weight than those who didn’t.
In another study, the weight loss properties were due to the content of polyphenols and their subgroup called catechins. This is found in green tea known as ECGC and is linked to accelerated metabolism.
2. Oolong tea

This type of tea comes from the same leaves as green tea and black tea. However, oolong tea is partially oxidized, in contrast to green tea which is not and black tea which is fully oxidized.
A study revealed that oolong tea contains polyphenols for fast metabolism and reducing belly fat. Another study in animals suggests that the polyphenols in tea can help reduce visceral fat tissue.
3. Black tea
One of the things included in black tea is Earl Grey, and it has been found to reduce weight and reduce visceral fat. Based on a 2016 report, polyphenols in black tea have anti-obesity properties and can reduce weight.
Meanwhile, a 2014 study stated that drinking three cups of black tea every day for three months can reduce a lot of weight. Including reducing one’s waist circumference.

White Tea is also said to speed up metabolism and increase fat oxidation. Namely, you can lose weight and manage it.
Based on reports in 2023, white tea is also useful for reducing weight and especially visceral fat. White tea refers to tea leaves that are dried after being picked without being roasted or oxidized.
5. Pu-erh tea
Pu-erh tea is made from the leaves and stems of the Camellia sinensis plant, which is the same plant used to make green, oolong and black tea. Even though the plant source used is the same, the tea produced will be different if different processes are used.
This tea is also effective in weight loss or fat reduction in several studies.
A 2014 study published in Phytotherapy Research found that male participants with metabolic syndrome who drank pu-erh tea experienced a slight decrease in body fat and BMI.
Another study from Nutrition Research found that pu-erh tea extract helped reduce body weight, BMI, and visceral fat in Japanese adults.
