Bitter coffee without sugar is much more recommended than coffee with added ingredients. But there are foods that should be avoided when drinking bitter coffee.
With only 4 calories, bitter coffee without sugar is safe for consumption by people who are losing weight. The caffeine content in bitter coffee can also provide additional energy, especially when you are feeling lethargic in the middle of the day.
While some people prefer to drink coffee without snacks or complementary foods, others feel there should be something to chew on.

1. Fried foods
Be careful of cardiovascular disease if you like drinking bitter coffee combined with fried foods.
Research has found that consuming more coffee can increase the risk of dyslipidemia or abnormal fat levels in the bloodstream.
This condition can get worse when you drink coffee while eating fried foods that are high in fat, especially fried foods that use flour.
2. Breakfast cereal
Drinking coffee while eating a breakfast menu such as cereal seems practical and filling. But it’s a good idea to avoid this habit.
Breakfast cereals usually contain additional nutrients (fortification), one of which is zinc. Although there has been no more in-depth research, coffee can interfere with the bioavailability of zinc. Bioavailability is the fractional form of nutrients that the body absorbs and uses.
3. Foods high in salt
Crispy, tasty chips are one of the foods that should be avoided when drinking bitter coffee.
People with hypertension are advised to avoid coffee. However, even without hypertension, drinking coffee while eating foods high in salt or sodium can affect blood pressure.

4. Red meat
It sounds strange, but there are people who eat red meat dishes with bitter coffee. Of course, the two are incompatible.
Red meat is a good source of iron for the body. This nutrient is useful for supporting blood circulation, hormone production and immune function.
Consuming it together with bitter coffee can actually reduce the absorption of iron by the body.
5. Citrus fruit
Drinking americano, aka espresso plus cold water, seems like a refreshing and low-calorie alternative. However, it would be unwise to drink it with citrus fruit or even mix it into an americano.
A mixture of the two can cause discomfort in the stomach because they are both high in acid. For those who have GERD or a history of stomach problems, you need to avoid the combination of bitter coffee and citrus fruits.
