PROBOLINGGO – Yellow rice is a culinary dish that is familiar to many people, and in Probolinggo, East Java, there is typical yellow rice in the style of Jawara Ngebul and Gongso which is always sought after by buyers. This yellow rice dish is not only suitable for large portions at parties, but can also be used as lunch for children, packaged in a beautiful bento.
For the last five years, the SAE Yellow Spiced Rice served at the Jawara Ngebul and Gongso stalls has been made using a recipe passed down from generation to generation. White rice is combined with special spices, such as lemongrass and coconut milk, which are cooked directly in the stall kitchen before being served to customers. The cooking process, from mixing yellow rice, noodles, to other accompaniments, is carried out by professionals who master secret family recipes.
This dish is a favorite, especially for children’s birthdays, lunches, or just for lunch on the spot. Customers can enjoy adult portions of yellow rice served with grilled chicken, fried liver chili sauce, dry tempeh chili sauce and shrimp paste chili sauce. Meanwhile, for children’s yellow rice bento, prices start from 18 thousand rupiah per portion, while for adult portions, prices range from 20 thousand to 25 thousand rupiah.
Apart from yellow rice, this stall also offers spiced drinks which are suitable for warming the body, especially in the strong wind season which often hits Probolinggo. (Hadith Abdillah)
