How to Store Enoki Mushrooms so They Don’t Go Bad Quickly


KOMPAS.com – Enoki mushrooms are a popular food ingredient in Asian cuisine.

With long stems and small white caps, these mushrooms have a mild flavor and crunchy texture, making them the perfect addition to soups, stir-fries, and a variety of other dishes.

However, enoki mushrooms are sensitive and easily damaged if not stored properly. If stored improperly, enoki mushrooms tend to become soft and watery.

To keep them fresh and long-lasting, here are some simple tips for storing enoki mushrooms properly:

1. Store at normal room temperature

For temporary storage, wrap the remaining enoki mushrooms in absorbent paper such as newspaper or tissue.

After that, put it in a plastic bag with a little air space. This method is suitable if you plan to use mushrooms in the near future.

2. Store in the refrigerator

If you want the enoki mushrooms to last longer, use the refrigerator. Don’t just leave the mushrooms exposed.

It’s best to wrap it in newspaper first, then put it in a plastic bag. Make sure the refrigerator has a stable temperature so that the quality of the mushrooms is maintained.

3. Freeze

Freezing enoki mushrooms is the best way for long-term storage. Place the mushrooms in the bag ziplock before storing in the freezer.

The advantage of this method is that the mushrooms do not need to be thawed before cooking, so it is practical to use at any time.

4. Dry

Dried enoki mushrooms have a unique taste similar to dried squid, are low in calories and low in sodium. Apart from that, the vitamin D content in dried enoki mushrooms is also higher.

This method not only makes the mushrooms last longer but also adds an interesting variety of flavors to your cooking.
