Asparagus allergy
Some people may be allergic to asparagus, especially those who are allergic to other members of the lily family such as onions, garlic, and chives.
Allergy symptoms include a runny nose, itching, difficulty breathing, and swelling around the mouth and lips.

Health benefits of asparagus
Even though it causes side effects, asparagus actually has various health benefits:
Supports fetal development
Asparagus is rich in folic acid (vitamin B-9) which is important for cell development, especially during pregnancy, infancy and adolescence.
Taking folic acid can help prevent miscarriage and protect the fetus from neural tube defects. One cup of asparagus can meet 17 percent of an adult’s daily folate requirement.
Reduces the risk of depression
The folate in asparagus helps prevent the buildup of homocysteine, an amino acid that can block nutrients and blood from reaching the brain.
A buildup of homocysteine can also interfere with the production of the hormones serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine, which play a role in regulating mood, sleep, and appetite.
Improves heart health
Asparagus contains fiber, potassium and antioxidants which can support heart health. Fiber helps lower blood pressure and bad cholesterol.
