1. Healthy heart

One of the benefits of eating spicy food is that it is heart healthy, although this is not directly related. This was stated by Dr. Vinoth, cardiologist at CARE Hospital Hitech City, Hyderabad, India.

Dr. Vinoth explained that in fact consuming spicy foods in moderation, especially those containing capsaicin, can provide several health benefits. Because capsaicin contains anti-inflammatory and antioxidant compounds.

Spicy foods made from chilies contain the compound capsaicin. This compound is efficacious for maintaining the body’s immunity. These properties may help reduce inflammation and oxidative stress, both of which are linked to heart disease.

2. Increase metabolism

The capsaicin in chilies is also known to increase the body’s metabolism which supports detoxification. So, spicy foods can be consumed to help manage weight, thereby reducing the risk of heart disease.

3. Lower blood pressure

The capsaicin content in spicy foods (chilies) also provides benefits for blood pressure. Several studies have shown that capsaicin can lower blood pressure which also reduces stress on the heart.

Even though a number of benefits are good for the body, it is also important to pay attention to the amount of consumption. It’s best to stick to consuming spicy foods in moderation.

If consumed too much it can cause digestive problems and discomfort. This can indirectly affect heart health.

4. How to eat spicy food properly

Dr. Vinoth also explains the best way to consume spicy food every day. First, add a little spicy food to your daily menu so your body can adjust.

Also choose a type of ‘spicy’ ingredient that is not excessive. Like paprika, pepper or red chili which is not overpoweringly spicy. You can also combine it with additional anti-inflammatory spices, such as turmeric, ginger and garlic.

Pair spicy foods with cold foods, such as yogurt, avocado or cucumber. The body must also remain hydrated so that the digestive system is not disturbed.
