Why are eggs good for brain health?

What makes eggs special? Eggs are rich in important nutrients for brain health, such as vitamins B6, B12, folic acid and choline. Among these nutrients, choline is in the main spotlight because of its vital role in brain function.

Choline helps produce acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that is critical for memory and learning.

The recommended daily requirement for choline is about 425 mg for women, and one large egg contains about 147 mg of choline, making it one of the best food sources. Apart from eggs, liver, several types of mushrooms, and soybeans also contain choline.

The benefits of eggs don’t stop there. Eggs also contain carotenoids such as lutein and zeaxanthin, which are known to maintain eye health.
