Coffee and headaches have long had a complicated relationship regarding the effects of caffeine on a person. Some people feel that their headaches can subside after drinking coffee. However, there are also those who actually feel a headache after finishing a cup of coffee.
Reporting from the MayoClinic website (18/11), caffeine in coffee apparently has both effects. Caffeine is said to relieve headaches. Because during a headache, these blood vessels swell and tighten and cause blood flow around the brain.

Well, the caffeine in coffee has vasoconstrictive properties which can reduce headache pain. In other words, caffeine acts to reduce blood flow to the brain. The impact is that the headache felt can subside, along with the accompanying pain effects.
But caffeine can also trigger headaches. Because when caffeine is consumed continuously, the body will depend on the effects that caffeine has.
Because caffeine has vasoconstrictive properties, when someone stops drinking coffee, of course the blood vessels will enlarge again, which then triggers headaches. These headaches usually last for several weeks, until the body adjusts to the stopped caffeine intake.

So what should be done? Several health experts recommend that people start paying attention to their caffeine intake in coffee every day, and how this caffeine affects body functions.
Because everyone’s body condition is different. Especially for those who often experience headaches, it is important to remember or note down things that are thought to trigger headaches or even those that can relieve them.
Apart from that, people who often have headaches should start reducing their caffeine intake periodically. And consume it in moderate doses.
For safe caffeine consumption, the Mayo Clinic recommends around 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine for adults. The range is equivalent to 4 cups of coffee, and 2 glasses of energy drink.
It should be remembered that apart from coffee, caffeine is also contained in various sports drink products, soda drinks, tea, chocolate, and many more.
