SAUDI ARABIA — Typical Indonesian food is now a remedy for homesickness for the Indonesian diaspora living in Saudi Arabia. In activities held by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Media as part of the Global Harmony program, various Indonesian culinary delights can be easily found.
Eating typical Indonesian food, which was previously difficult to access, is now a reality for Indonesian citizens in Saudi Arabia. The Global Harmony activity, organized by the Ministry of Media and the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, offers a variety of dishes, from siomay, batagor, fried chicken, to ice cendol. However, the best seller is the meatballs, with hundreds of bowls selling out in a day.
This soupy food is indeed a remedy for homesickness for the Indonesian diaspora, bringing back memories of home cooking. Apart from that, this event was also enlivened by artistic performances and entertainment from Indonesian musicians, creating a warm atmosphere for the participants.
This activity, which lasts for 46 days, displays nine cultures from 11 different countries. It is hoped that it will become a bridge for cultural integration and strengthen good relations between the Indonesian diaspora and the population of Saudi Arabia.
With this event, the diaspora can relieve their longing for their homeland while enjoying the cultural diversity that exists. (Dwinarto)
