The best way to keep ground coffee fresh is to store it on a kitchen shelf in an opaque, airtight container. This container will protect the coffee from exposure to light, heat and moisture.
Nomi Brew’s Scott McMartin, an expert who has tasted more than half a million cups of coffee, suggests using an airtight container if you have one.
If not, you can tightly seal the coffee bag with a rubber band and put it in plastic.
Storing ground coffee vs coffee beans
Many people wonder whether it is better to store whole coffee beans or ground coffee.
Like ground coffee, whole coffee beans also need to be stored in a cool, dry and dark place, and in an opaque, airtight container.

For optimal storage, ceramic containers are the best choice, although glass containers can also be used as long as they are stored in a dark place.
Avoid storing coffee in plastic or metal containers, as this can affect the taste of the coffee.
How long does ground coffee stay fresh
Properly stored ground coffee can stay fresh for up to two weeks. Storing coffee for too long will affect the taste quality.
Therefore, buying coffee in smaller quantities is the best solution to maintain its freshness.
If the coffee smells bad or looks moldy, it means the coffee has gone bad and should be thrown away.
On the other hand, whole coffee beans can last up to one month after opening the package, provided they are stored in the right way. It is best to grind only the amount of beans you will use to maintain freshness.
