Three Senses and a Cup for Enjoying Tea

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia — Tea has become a popular drink in society. Ordinary people just sip when relaxing or drink tea when they need energy in a moment.

Not only sips, people also often don’t care about the container the tea is served in. Some use glasses, cups, even small bowls.

However, a tea lover considers how to enjoy it to be part of appreciation. According to TWG Tea Indonesia Marketing Manager, Trixie Anindita, tea should be enjoyed with three human senses. To maximize the sensations received by these three senses, you need the right cup.

Before drinking tea, the first thing to appreciate is the color of the tea. From the color density, people can predict the type of tea and appreciate it.

“So, first is the sense of sight. Therefore, the color of the cup must be white so you can see the color of the tea,” said Trixie to CNN Indonesia.

After seeing the color of the tea, people will start to bring the cup closer to their mouths. At this time, the next sense works.

“Both senses of smell are used to inhale aromas which are of course different for each type of tea,” said Trixie.

To fully enjoy the aroma of tea, a low and wide container is needed. With a cup like this, the aroma can spread easily.

Finally, the sense of taste tastes the taste of tea. According to Trixie, tea should be immediately felt on the tip of the tongue.

“For this reason, the rim of the cup must be thinner than mugs in general so that the first time people take a sip it goes straight to the tip of the tongue,” said Trixie.

Apart from that, Trixie also recommends that tea leaves or bags not be soaked in the glass for too long. Tea should also be stored in a teapot with a heating system.

“When it gets cold it will definitely settle and the taste will be bitter. That’s not the way to appreciate tea,” he said.
