8 Ways to Make Coffee Healthier, Don’t Add Sugar


KOMPAS.com – Coffee is one of the most popular drinks in the world and many health experts believe that coffee is a drink that is beneficial for health.

Reporting from Kompas.com (14/10/2024), drinking coffee regularly can reduce the risk of cardiometabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke.

To get the maximum benefits from coffee, it is important that you pay attention to what ingredients are added to it.

How to drink coffee to be healthier

Here are some tips so that your coffee is not only healthy, but healthier.

1. Avoid drinking coffee in the afternoon and evening

Coffee contains high amounts of caffeine which can provide an energy boost and help you stay alert.

However, if taken too late in the afternoon or evening, caffeine can interfere with sleep quality, which has the potential to trigger health problems.

If you want a hot drink in the afternoon, choose tea that contains less caffeine or decaffeinated coffee.

2. Don’t add too much sugar

Coffee is basically healthy, but excessive added sugar can reduce its benefits.

Excess sugar, especially because of the fructose content, can cause various serious diseases such as obesity and diabetes. If you can’t drink coffee without sweetness, consider a natural sweetener like stevia.

Avoid the habit of turning coffee into a sweet drink which can eliminate its health benefits.

3. Choose quality coffee, preferably organic

4. Avoid drinking too much coffee

Although moderate coffee consumption is good for health, drinking too much can cause side effects.

Health Canada recommends a safe limit of around 1.1 mg of caffeine per pound (2.5 mg per kg) of body weight per day.
