4 Correct Ways to Wash Grapes to Remove Pesticide Residues


KOMPAS.com – Remaining chemical residues in Shine Muscat grapes imported from China have been widely discussed on social media.

Malaysia and Thailand were the two countries that found pesticide residues exceeding the maximum limit on Shine Muscat grapes.

1. Wash grapes after purchasing

Don’t wait too long, wash the grapes immediately after buying them from the supermarket.

Try to buy enough wine. Because storing grapes after washing is also not the right choice.

Grapes that have been washed contain a higher water content so they rot easily.

2. Soak the grapes

3. Wash the grapes with salt and baking soda

Prepare the grapes to be washed. Place in a bowl and rinse with cold water, then drain.

Then, place the grapes in a bowl and sprinkle with a teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of baking soda.

Use your fingers to gently rub the grapes for about a minute. Then, place the grapes in a colander and rinse with cold water. Dry.

4. Use vinegar and baking soda to wash the grapes

Mix two tablespoons of baking soda and two tablespoons of vinegar. Use a 1:1 ratio for different quantities.

Fill a bowl with water and submerge the grapes. Add the mixture and rub the grapes with your fingers while soaking.

Leave the grapes in the solution for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the bowl, place in a colander, then rinse with cold water and drain.
