KOMPAS.com – Grapes have been a part of human life for centuries, not only as a delicious fruit but also as an important ingredient in cultures and cuisines around the world.

Since it was first cultivated in the Mediterranean and Middle East thousands of years ago, grapes have given rise to various varieties that offer unique tastes, aromas and health benefits.

One variety that has recently attracted global attention is the Muscat grape. Read about the origins of muscat grapes as reported by Page Specialty Produce And Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries on Google Art and Culture.

Grapes have been an important part of human civilization for thousands of years, with evidence of cultivation dating back thousands of years in the Middle East and Europe. Grape varieties continue to evolve, creating fruit with unique flavors and characteristics.

One variety that is attracting attention around the world today is the Muscat grape, especially Shine Muscat from Japan. These grapes not only create a special taste experience, but also symbolize innovation in modern Japanese agriculture.

Shine Muscat is a variety developed by the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization (NARO) in Hiroshima, Japan. According to Specialty Produce, Shine Muscat is the result of crossbreeding between Akitsu No. 21 and Hakunan, two varieties selected to create high-quality fruit with strong adaptation to the Japanese climate.

Initially, European grapes, such as Muscat of Alexandria, had difficulty surviving in the Japanese environment due to differences in climate, soil and weather. However, efforts that began in 1973 resulted in Shine Muscat, which combines the distinctive aroma of European Muscat with the strength of Japanese varieties.

It took more than 30 years for breeders to develop and perfect this variety until finally in 2006, Shine Muscat was officially released as a large superior fruit, without seeds, with a strong sweet taste and edible skin.

The development of Shine Muscat is advancing thanks to Japanese farmers such as Yoshiyuki Okaki of Okaki Farm in Nagano Prefecture, who is known as one of the main producers of this grape.

In accordance with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF) report, Okaki began developing Shine Muscat after receiving a recommendation from MAFF in 2005. Okaki tasted this grape for the first time at the Nagano Fruit Tree Experiment Station and was impressed by its strong sweetness and distinctive aroma. .

The advantage of Shine Muscat also lies in its crisp texture, as well as resistance to the local climate which allows this grape to thrive in areas with large temperature differences between day and night.

Okaki and other farmers adopt modern and environmentally friendly farming techniques to maximize grape quality. One of these innovations is the use of solar panels to provide energy for the greenhouse, which also protects plants from rain and maintains temperature stability.

This step not only helps the environment but also maintains the freshness and taste of the grapes throughout the growing process until harvest.

Today, Shine Muscat has become a symbol of luxury in the Japanese fruit world, enjoyed as a premium fruit on special occasions and as a gift.

With its success in the Japanese market, this grape is now exported to many countries, including China, South Korea, Hong Kong and the United States, where it is accepted as an exclusive fruit that reflects the quality and dedication of Japanese growers.
