Unique European Cheese Introduced to Jakarta and Bali This Year


KOMPAS.com – The Center National Interprofessionnel de l’Economie Laitière (CNIEL) is holding a campaign “Europe Full of Character: Savor Cheeses of France” in Jakarta and Bali in October 2024.

This campaign, supported by the European Union, is aimed at food lovers, culinary entrepreneurs and students to highlight the perfect blend of French cheese and Indonesian spices.

Participants were invited to understand more deeply about French milk, including its three unique features, namely tradition, diversity of flavors and varied textures.

“I see that there is a trend in product use gourmet“, like French cheese, in traditional Indonesian recipes is increasing,” said one chef from Jakarta, Agung, as quoted by an official statement received Kompas.com, Tuesday (29/10/2024).

The participants in this campaign are invited to learn savoir fairecenturies of French cheesemaking expertise, as well as the culinary art of combining cheese with various dishes.

There is also learning to make gougeres, small cakes made from dough choux cheese with local herbs.

More than 150 culinary students at the Academy of Pastry and Culinary Arts (APCA) in Jakarta and Bali Culinary Pastry School (BCPS), took part in the exclusive “French Cheese 101” workshop in this series of campaigns.

“Local consumers are increasingly daring to try various dishes, not only because of the large number of tourists in Bali, but also because of French cheese, especially blue cheese, increasingly popular as an ingredient in dishes fusion,” said Bali Culinary Pastry School (BCPS) student, Vesya.

Cheesemonger or François Robin, came directly from France to help with this program to introduce French cheese, as well as guide activities that discussed various techniques for making French cheese and its potential in Indonesian and Asian cuisine.
