Friday Night Culinary: Sate Sambas Haji Rofii, a delicious dish that has been open since 1974

Liputan6.com, Jakarta – That night rain greeted Jakarta again, including in the Sambas River area, Panglima Polim, South Jakarta. Customers in the area which is popular for its satay dishes slowly moved to take shelter under the large tarpaulins provided by the traders.

One of the satay carts that is busy serving customers is Sate Sambas Haji Rofii. The satay business which is now run by Bambang Sugiharto has apparently been established since 1974 and has successfully maintained its existence to this day.

“Initially this satay was formed in 1974. Haji Rofii was the name that owned it, then it was bought by my father (Pak Harisun) but he didn’t change the name. He used to trade here. He also bought it in 1974,” explained Bambang to Liputan6.comin the Sambas River area, South Jakarta, recently.

Around 2011, Bambang replaced his father in sales. He said that previously Sate Sambas Haji Rofii was selling satay around the sidewalk of Jalan Sungai Sambas. However, with a change in regulations around the same year, he started trading on a small street right in front of an elementary school.

Sate Sambas Haji Rofii first started selling only satay with peanut sauce. Bambang admitted that nothing had changed in terms of spices, but only added the taican satay menu when this dish started hits about eight years ago.

“The recipe for spices is no different from the 70s until now, but the only difference is taican because most people like abg (newly grown up kids). If the older ones like the conventional one, namely the peanut one, because Sate Sambas is famous for its peanut satay,” he added. .

Sate Sambas Haji Rofii’s favorite menu from when it first opened until now is chicken satay with peanut sauce. Bambang said that the presence of goat satay, which is usually ordered with soy sauce, is only a complement.

Sate Sambas Haji Rofii is open every day from 17.00-00.00 WIB. Usually, the peak hours are Saturday nights and Sunday nights, except for Eid. Meanwhile, this satay remains open during the month of Ramadan and starts trading from 15.00-00.00 WIB.
