TABANAN, BALIPOST.com – The Tabanan Regency Culture Service in 2024 has proposed three cultural objects to receive the Intangible Cultural Heritage (WBTB) label. However, of the three objects proposed, one of them is certain to not pass the WBTB determination hearing stage.
Head of the Tabanan Culture Service, I Made Yudiana, through the Young Cultural Expert of the Tabanan Culture Service, I Made Adi Mahartawan, explained that the three objects proposed were the typical Pupuan food in the form of entil, the Baris Memedi dance, and the Rejang Ayunan. However, of the three, only entil failed to go further in this process. Meanwhile, two other objects are still awaiting the trial process which will be held on 19-23 August 2024.
Adi said, Pupuan entil did not pass the WBTB trial due to several factors, including the inability to explain the characteristics that differentiate entil from similar foods from other regions. “We will complete the missing documents and re-propose Entil Pupuan in 2025,” said Mahartawan, Sunday (11/8).
Mahartawan also mentioned that the Baris Memedi and Rejang Ayunan dances were awaiting the results of the trial which he hoped would be successful. “Hopefully both of them can qualify,” he said.
The submission of these three objects, according to Mahartawan, aims to ensure that the cultural heritage is not claimed by other regions. Baris Memedi and Rejang Ayunan, which are unique arts from Tabanan, only exist in this area. The Memedi line, which was previously submitted in 2023, has been resubmitted because it requires several improvements.
The process of submitting objects to obtain the WBTB label requires various requirements, including complete studies, materials and videos. “We received study assistance, videos and materials from the Cultural Preservation Center for entil. “However, this year entil did not qualify,” explained Mahartawan.
The Tabanan Culture Service is currently waiting for further information regarding the approval of the two objects which are still in the trial process, and hopes that everything will run smoothly. In 2023, two cultural objects from Tabanan have received the WBTB label, namely the traditional game Megandu and the typical Tabanan vegetable, gondo. This recognition was received in September 2023.
