Wow! Balinese Love Luwak Coffee Can Reach IDR 60 Million Per Kilogram



Bandung – Local coffee is becoming popular. One of the most expensive coffees from Bali, Indonesia. It is said that the price of the coffee, known as Kopi Luwak Bercinta, can reach IDR 60 million per kilogram.

Chair of the Indonesian Specialty Coffee Association, Setra Yuhana, said that so far the world has known a number of coffees that do not fall into any category or are called Extraordinary Coffee.

“For example, forest coffee, luwak coffee and elephant coffee in Thailand. Yes, coffee only treats curiosity, it’s up to us whether we want to try it or not,” said Setra to detikcom on the sidelines of training held by the Ministry of Environment and Forestry in Kota. Bandung, Friday (13/10/2017).

Of this type, Setra once found a forest civet coffee in Bali with a type that was quite unique. This coffee is made from civet droppings that are in a position of sexual intercourse.

“When Luwak makes love it produces a distinctive aroma. The aroma sticks strongly to the coffee. So it is called Kopi Luwak Bercinta. At that time the price was up to IDR 60 million per kilogram,” he said.

So far, said Setra, the most expensive coffee in the world is from Brazil. “I’ve seen it sold in Japan for around IDR 5 million per kilogram,” he said.

Meanwhile, certain types of coffee from Indonesia are starting to be in demand and are sold at a price range of IDR 150-500 thousand per kilogram depending on the type.

According to him, the current selling price of Indonesian coffee is still cheap compared to abroad. Because even though it is in third place as the world’s largest coffee producer, in the world of coffee, Indonesia is still relatively new.

“But it is not impossible that the more popular Indonesian coffee is, the higher the selling price will be,” said Setra.
