Report from Tribunnews.com Correspondent, Richard Susilo from Japan
TRIBUNNEWS.COM, TOKYO – Rendang in Japan is written on the products of a Japanese company, especially Rendang Soup as a traditional Malaysian food.
There is no Indonesian name written on the product which will be sold starting June 2021 at a price of 148 yen including (VAT).
“We have asked the product development department because it is related to design so it is written in Malaysia,” explained Ogawa, a public relations executive for the Japanese company Nagatanien Co. Ltd., a manufacturer of special rendang soup, to Tribunnews.com Monday afternoon (27/9/2021).
If it only says Malaysian, can it be replaced with Indonesian? Does that also involve design?
“Wow, I don’t really know. From them, the product development team only said it was related to the design so it turned out like that,” added Ogawa again.
So how much is currently sold and remaining?
“We have sold 300,000 boxes of soup or around 20 million yen in sales,” he added.
No more product left?
“Nothing, everything has been sold, and we don’t produce any more,” he explained again.
The validity period for products produced in May 2021 will be sold in June 2021, 12 months until 2022.
The Rendang Soup product owned by Tribunnews.com says it is valid until May 13, 2022.
Is it true that rendang has come from Malaysia now?
This is the first time Tribunnews.com has encountered this in Japan in more than 30 years.
