8 Typical Indonesian Satay Ingredients, Madura Sate to Lilit Sate


Sate Ponorogo is a variation of satay that is popular in Indonesia. This satay comes from Ponorogo, East Java, and has a distinctive and appetizing taste. Following are the ingredients and steps in the Ponorogo Satay recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams beef, cut into cubes
  • 5 cloves of garlic, crushed
  • 2 tablespoons sweet soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons cooking oil
  • 1 teaspoon lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground pepper
  • Skewer to taste

Peanut sauce:

  • 200 grams of peanuts, roasted
  • 4 cloves of garlic
  • 3 curly red chilies
  • 1 tablespoon sweet soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon brown sugar
  • Enough water

Steps:

1. Mix beef with garlic, sweet soy sauce, light soy sauce, cooking oil, lime juice, salt and ground pepper. Mix well and let sit for 1 hour.

2. Thread the beef pieces evenly on the skewers.

3. Grill the satay over coals or a grill, brushing occasionally with marinade.

4. For peanut sauce, grind peanuts, garlic, curly red chilies, sweet soy sauce, salt and brown sugar. Add water little by little until the spices reach the desired consistency.

5. Serve Ponorogo satay with peanut sauce and accompaniments such as ketupat, cucumber slices and white rice.
