Here are 7 healthy eating trends recommended by nutritionists to welcome 2023, as quoted from Eat This, Not That:

1. Eat more plant-based ingredients

You don’t need to be completely vegan or vegetarian, increasing your daily intake of plant-based foods is clearly good for your health. The benefits of following a diet based on fruit, vegetables and vegetable protein are numerous.

“Plant-based diets are still increasing in popularity as one of the biggest healthy food trends, and will likely continue into 2023 as a more cost-effective way to eat. The benefits are able to control high blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar and a healthier body weight,” said nutritionist Melissa Mitri.

He recommends including 1-2 meatless meals each week. Start slowly and continue to increase the portion or frequency of consumption of plant foods.

2. Choose seafood from sustainable sources

Living a healthy diet is actually accompanied by an environmentally conscious diet. One form of this is choosing seafood from sustainable sources. Avoid seafood products from sources that are threatened with extinction, such as Alaskan salmon or sea bass caught in the open sea.

Nutritionist Saran Anzlovar revealed, “Sustainably sourced and produced food has gained significant momentum, and I predict people will continue to do so in 2023. From sustainably sourced seafood and a focus on plant-based diet options, there are many ways to to support your health and the planet’s.”

3. Eat more nuts

Consuming nuts has been shown to improve health in a variety of ways. People in the Blue Zones region and those who follow the Mediterranean diet have long consumed a variety of nuts to stay healthy. You can copy this method for 2023.

Try adding half a cup of nuts to your daily diet. There are types of red beans, black beans, peas and lentils. “Consuming nuts is good for healthy intestines, blood sugar levels and lowering high blood pressure,” said nutritionist Amanda Lane. If you don’t like the texture of beans, you can puree them to make soup or other dishes.

4. Eat more with family

Nutrition expert Dani Lebovitz highlights why eating with the family is one of the healthy eating trends of 2023. “Even though the trend of eating with the family, which peaked when the Covid-19 pandemic, has subsided, this trend is expected to continue with more people enjoying meals at home due to the impact of the increase in food prices and inflation,” he said.

According to Lebovitz, research shows family dining also aligns with other food-related trends. This practice can help children develop a healthier relationship with food while establishing lifelong eating habits.
