6 Foods and Drinks That Make You Weak and Sleepy, Limit Their Consumption

KOMPAs.com – If you often feel lethargic during the day, the causes can be varied. It can start from lack of rest to the food you consume.

As it turns out, certain types of foods can contribute to low energy levels, making you feel more tired than you should.

However, when eating, it is also important to pay attention to the type of food you consume. Some foods can drain your energy quickly.

Why are there foods and drinks that actually make you weak?

Foods that cause a rapid spike in blood sugar usually also cause the sugar level to drop drastically in a short time. The spike in energy you feel will be followed by fatigue within 30 to 60 minutes.

Ultra-processed foods and drinks are the main culprits in this regard. This type of food is generally high in sugar and refined carbohydrates, but low in protein, fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Even though they taste delicious, foods like this don’t provide long-lasting energy and make you feel hungry again quickly.

Food and drink that makes you tired

Here is a list of foods and drinks that are best avoided when you need energy throughout the day:

1 . Sweet drinks

Soda, sweet tea, lemonade, flavored water, and energy drinks contain large amounts of sugar that can drain your energy.

For example, one can of soda contains about 10 teaspoons of sugar, while an energy drink may contain 9 to 12 teaspoons of sugar.

2. Sweetened fruit juice

Although labels often say “no added sugar,” ultra-processed fruit juices usually lose most of the fiber, leaving behind the sugar. Each glass of sweetened juice can contain 5 to 9 teaspoons of sugar.

Although delicious, these foods do not provide the stable energy that the body needs.

5. Chocolate and candy

As sweet foods that fall into the ultra-processed category, chocolate and candy can trigger blood sugar spikes that are quickly followed by fatigue. However, there is no harm in enjoying this food occasionally, as long as you pay attention to portions.

6. Cakes and pastries

Cakes, cookies, donuts and pastries are usually made from white flour and contain a lot of sugar.
