KOMPAS.com – Cooking green mussels incorrectly can make the fishy aroma stronger when eaten.
One of the important stages when cooking this seafood is cleaning it. If the method is right, green mussels will taste delicious when eaten.

Iyus, chef at Korean restaurant Taeyang Sung Grand Indonesia, explains how to clean green mussels so they don’t get fishy below.
1. Boil with ginger
Iyus said that he usually boils green mussels with ginger to get rid of the fishy taste.
“First boil the green mussels using ginger so that the fishy taste disappears. The ginger is whole, then crush it,” he said when met by the media at Taeyang Sung Grand Indonesia, Tuesday (12/11/2024).
He did not mention the exact ratio between the amount of water and ginger that should be used.

“Use a lot of ginger, so the fishy taste disappears,” he repeated.
2. Boil 10 minutes
Next, let the ginger and green mussels boil for 10 minutes until the fishy smell changes to the strong aroma of ginger.
You can also check the doneness level of the green mussels after 10 minutes. If it’s still not cooked enough, continue boiling for a little longer.

3. Drain and rinse
Immediately remove the green mussels after boiling for 10 minutes, then drain and rinse thoroughly.
“Drain, wash again (rinse) until the remains (dirt) are gone. Rinse again, finally drain,” said Iyas.
