3 Homemade Japanese Satay Recipes that are Family Favorites

Although Japanese satay, aka yakitori, is generally made from chicken, you can also make it in a beef version. Complementary ingredients and seasonings can also be chosen according to individual taste.

According to the Michelin Guide page, Saturday, September 23 2023, yakitori is a street food that first appeared in the mid-Meiji era (1880s-90s). At that time, Shamo poultry soup was popular in Japan. Such meat is expensive, so stalls take cuts and offal that comes from restaurants.

Japanese Satay

1/4 kg chicken breast fillet

1/2 green and red peppers

To taste, skewer the satay

Sauce ingredients:

1 tbsp soy sauce

1 tbsp oyster sauce

1 tbsp sweet soy sauce

1 tsp black pepper

1/2 tsp chicken stock

How to Make Japanese Satay

  1. Wash the chicken clean, then cut into cubes.
  2. Mix all the spices, then add the chopped chicken.
  3. Marinate the chicken for one hour, then skewer.
  4. Bake or roast until completely cooked. Don’t leave it too long so the meat is still juicy. Serve warm and delicious.
