Denpasar –
The Bali General Election Commission (KPU) revealed that voter participation during the 2024 regional elections did not reach the target, only 71.9 percent. The Bali KPU previously targeted voter participation to reach 75 percent. The lowest participation was in Denpasar City, only 59 percent.
“We didn’t (reach the target), we are at 71.9 percent. But it’s still the average level of voter participation, that’s the trend,” said Bali KPU commissioner I Gede John Darmawan when contacted detikBali, Wednesday (4/12/2024).
John explained that the trend of voter participation in each regional election at the provincial level is around 71-74 percent. He emphasized that the KPU would evaluate what was the cause of voter participation in Bali not reaching 75 percent.
John explained that this figure appeared when the recapitulation at the sub-district level had been completed. Denpasar is the region with the lowest participation, namely 59.5 percent.
“Denpasar is low. However, it has increased because in the 2020 regional elections it was 54 percent, now it is 59.5,” said the former chairman of the Denpasar KPU.
The Bali KPU releases voter participation figures in each district/city. Namely, Denpasar City had voter participation of 59.5%, Badung Regency (78%), Tabanan (82.7%), Jembrana (71.1%), Buleleng (61.3%), Karangasem (72.8%) , Bangli (78.4%), Klungkung (73.4%), and Gianyar (82.4%).
Currently, the recapitulation at the district/city level is ongoing until December 6 2024. In accordance with the KPU stages, the provincial level recapitulation will be carried out on December 8 2024.
