2 Tips for Buying Wine in Supermarkets, Advice from IPB Experts


KOMPAS.com – How to choose good quality fruit can start from the physical characteristics of the crop itself.

You can pay attention to the color, smell and texture of the fruit before buying it. Including when buying wine.

Awang Maharijaya, Head of the Center for Tropical Horticulture Studies at the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB), shares tips for buying grapes at supermarket which you can follow below.

1. Make sure the texture is still hard

Grapes that are still suitable for consumption have a dense or hard texture when handled. So, if possible, you can feel the texture of this fruit before buying it.

“The texture is still hard, there is no mold or other foreign objects other than grapes in the packaging,” said Awang when contacted Kompas.com, Wednesday (30/10/2024).

“Sometimes we can also find stuffy ones like that, (avoid them),” he added.

2. Look at the packaging label

Wine sold at supermarketusually neatly packaged and equipped with a label for type, weight and price.

Also pay attention to whether there are special labels, such as organic planting, to avoid contamination with high amounts of pesticides.

“If there is a label available, for example an organic label or something else, it is grown on green house or what, and so on to reduce the possibility of pesticides being used,” said Awang.
