1. Kupi Khop, Aceh

In Aceh, there is coffee served in an upside-down glass. The name is kupi khop which is typical of Meulaboh, West Aceh. Coffee is served in a glass, covered tightly with a small plate, then quickly turned over. This process, which is related to the amount of air pressure, allows the coffee filling not to spill.

To enjoy it, one needs to blow the coffee filling in the glass with a straw or pipette. Later the water will slowly come out of the sides of the glass. Usually the coffee used is the robusta type.

2. Kopi Takar, Mandailing

The next unique coffee comes from Mandailing Natal, North Sumatra. Called coffee takar, the presentation is unique because it uses a coconut shell cup. Cinnamon sticks are added to coffee to add aroma and can also be used as straws.

Dosed coffee generally also has palm sugar added as a sweetener. Meanwhile, Mandailing coffee which is the filling is famous for having a thick texture and rich taste. Many local people really support Mandailing coffee.

From the Minang realm there is the famous talua coffee. The name “talua” means “egg” which indicates the blend of coffee ingredients, namely raw egg yolk. To mix it, this coffee is also served with sweetened condensed milk and cinnamon powder.

4. Kawa Daun Coffee, Tanah Datar

Kawa leaf coffee or aia kawa or leaf coffee is a unique coffee typical of Tanah Datar, West Sumatra. This coffee is not made from coffee beans, but coffee leaves which are brewed like tea.

The selected coffee leaves go through a drying process first by roasting them for 12 hours. Kawa leaf coffee is generally served in a shell glass and topped with cinnamon.

5. Manggar Coffee, Belitung

A trip to Belitung is incomplete without tasting Manggar coffee. The presentation is what makes this drink unique. The coffee grounds will be placed in a filter made of cotton and then brewed with boiling water.
