Black tea is a type of tea that is widely consumed in Indonesia. Drinking black tea regularly can bring these 10 healthy benefits. It’s been scientifically proven, you know!
Black tea is a type of tea that is commonly consumed in the world, but its health benefits are not as well known as green tea or white tea. In fact, black tea also contains many benefits for body health.
As long as you are not sensitive to caffeine, are suitable for consuming tea, and do not add sugar to black tea, consuming this drink regularly can have extraordinary health impacts on the body. This was conveyed by nutritionist Robin Foroutan as quoted from Prevention (11/17).
Here are 10 healthy benefits black tea scientifically proven:
1. Helps focus
Black tea contains caffeine which functions to help you focus better and increase energy. Nutritionist Amanda Holtzer explains that black tea contains about 1/3 or 1/2 the caffeine of a cup of black coffee.
“Because tea contains caffeine and L-theanine, compounds that help the body calm down, this combination can provide a more balanced boost,” adds Foroutan.
2. Keep your heart healthy
Recent research has found that drinking 2 or more cups of black tea per day can reduce the risk of premature death from cardiovascular disease, ischemic heart disease and stroke.
Additionally, black tea consumption helps improve the health and function of the endothelium lining of blood vessels, explains Foroutan. This condition can support proper blood flow throughout the body and create healthy blood pressure.
“Black tea drinkers were found to have a lower risk of stroke and atherosclerosis,” he notes. Antioxidants found in black tea called flavonoids may also help reduce the risk of heart disease, says nutritionist Anna Rios.
3. Reduces bad cholesterol in the body

Holtzer said several studies show that apart from being heart healthy, black tea consumption can also reduce LDL cholesterol, which is known as “bad” cholesterol in the blood. Other studies have found that although it does not necessarily have an impact on total cholesterol or HDL, it can significantly reduce LDL concentrations.
4. Lower blood pressure
A recent scientific study also noted that regular consumption of black tea can lower blood pressure. Consuming it also prevents a person from diseases caused by high blood pressure, such as stroke.
5. Improves intestinal health
The antioxidants contained in black tea can positively influence gut microbes, Foroutan says. Rios adds, “Polyphenols can also promote the growth of food bacteria in the gut leading to improved gut health.”
