Liputan6.com, Jakarta – The popularity of this typical Indonesian dish has echoes on the world stage. TasteAtlas released a list of the most popular Indonesian foods which will be released on Friday, September 15 2023.

The top position on the list of the most popular Indonesian foods was taken by satay which received 4.4 points out of 5. This page explains that satay is a traditional Indonesian dish consisting of skewered meat and served with sauce.

All types of meat can be used to make satay, even some exotic types of meat such as crocodile or snake meat. Generally, meat is marinated before grilling,” the statement read.

TasteAtlas wrote, “Marinades vary, but usually include dark soy sauce, sugar, garlic, lime juice, and other seasonings. Satay is believed to have originated in the Java region of Indonesia and was developed under the influence of Muslim traders who migrated from India.

Continuing with chili sauce which is in second place with the same points as satay. Sambal is usually made with chilies and a mixture of other ingredients.

Sometimes the ingredients are adjusted by using lime juice, onions, sugar, ginger, shrimp paste, or vinegar. Traditionally prepared in a mortar, its characteristic features are its thick consistency and very strong, sharp taste,” explained TasteAtlas.

TasteAtlas also states that the chili sauce has received worldwide recognition and is available in many Asian markets and international stores throughout the world. “Sambal is used in a variety of Asian dishes, usually as a spicy condiment, condiment, or topping served with meat, seafood, vegetables, or rice.,” explained the page.
