Jakarta –
Apart from pure coconut water, there are also many packaged coconut water drinks on the market, such as bottled, canned or paper boxed coconut water. So, which one has better nutrition?
Coconut water is a drink that contains benefits for the body. It contains electrolytes, carbohydrates, fiber, protein, vitamin C and antioxidants.
Consuming coconut water is believed to help overcome various health problems, such as controlling high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood sugar. Drinking coconut water can also treat food poisoning and help prevent mild dehydration in the body.
However, there are various forms of coconut water on the market. Not only pure coconut water is still served in shells, but also packaged coconut water in the form of cans, bottles and paper boxes.
When choosing one, there are several important factors to pay attention to. Starting from the ingredients, whether preservatives are used or not, to the safety of the packaging.
If you are curious about which packaged coconut water is the best, see the following explanation, as reported by the Times of India (02/01/2025).
1. Canned coconut water

Canned coconut water is usually pasteurized at high temperatures to extend its shelf life. However, this pasteurization process can slightly reduce the intensity of the taste and nutritional content.
Canned coconut water is also typically packaged in recyclable aluminum cans, but its production involves significant energy and environmental impacts.
In terms of nutrition, canned coconut water that goes through the pasteurization process has reduced nutritional quality, one of which is the vitamin C content in it. Some brands also often add preservatives and artificial sweeteners which make coconut water not very healthy.
Because it is packaged in a can, this coconut water may have a slight change in taste.
Therefore, make sure to check the label and find out whether there is added sugar or artificial flavors in it or not.
2. Bottled coconut water

On the other hand, bottled water is usually processed through cold-press technology or low-processing technology to ensure natural taste and nutrition. Because these two processes include minimum processes, the coconut water in this bottle tends to be able to maintain its freshness.
In terms of packaging, bottled coconut water is usually lighter and more practical. Unfortunately, these bottles are not environmentally friendly, unless they are made from recycled materials.
Regarding nutrition, bottled coconut water contains more nutrients because it is minimally processed, so it has a freshness that is closer to pure coconut water.
The taste of bottled coconut water is also fresher and generally contains fewer additives. However, again, you still need to check the nutritional information on the packaging.
Varieties of bottled coconut water are also easy to get and especially plastic bottles are more practical to carry everywhere. However, coconut water packaged in premium glass bottles may tend to be more expensive.
