Coffee is known to cause stomach upset after drinking it. This usually happens because the acidity level in coffee causes the stomach to increase its acid production.

Apart from the effects of the ingredients in coffee, Maddie also revealed that the volume of liquid consumed can disrupt the normal digestive process. Drinking just a small drink can actually trigger the brain to tell the body to prepare to absorb any nutrients.

Rapid gulping can hinder digestion. Drinking too much can also cause aerophagia, which is a condition when a person swallows too much air, which can cause digestive disorders.

Therefore, it is recommended to drink coffee slowly. Basically, enjoying coffee slowly can help prepare saliva enzymes and ensure the digestive process can run smoothly.

2. Does Drinking Coffee Slowly Reduce the Risk of Indigestion?

In simple terms, drinking coffee slowly can reduce digestive disorders. Maddie also agrees that it makes sense that sipping coffee slowly for an hour will produce a gradual effect.

There is still a lack of research that shows the ideal time to drink coffee. But Maddie thinks that the best balance in minimizing the side effects of coffee is to drink it within about 15 to 30 minutes.

Meanwhile, if coffee is drunk for a longer period of time, it is possible that the coffee will taste bad. Prolonged exposure to the tooth surface can increase the possible negative risks of bacterial proliferation such as cavities.
