Jakarta –
Having been popular for a long time in Indonesia, this trend of drinking soda mixed with milk turns out to be a new trend on TikTok. Many health experts call this drink unhealthy.
Happy soda is an iconic drink that has been around for a long time. This drink is quite simple, namely made from soda mixed with sweetened condensed milk, additional syrup and ice cubes.
This drink is usually served in restaurants, eating places, including weddings. However, apparently this drink has only become trendy overseas after TikTok popularized the ‘dirty soda’ drink trend.

Reporting from Healthline (10/12), the ‘dirty soda’ or ‘Pilk’ drink trend is a combination of Pepsi fizzy drinks with added milk which was first popularized by Pepsi.

Even so, these milk and soda drinks have been everywhere for decades. Doctors and nutritionists also say that this drink is not very healthy because of the sugar content in it.
“The nutrition in this drink is difficult to determine. Because the use of milk and soda also determines it,” explained Blanca Garcia as a dietitian and nutrition expert at Midss.
According to him, one can of Pepsi contains 150 calories and 41 grams of sugar. Meanwhile, milk contains 146 calories and 12 grams of sugar. If calculated, in one glass of this drink there are around 296 calories and 53 grams of sugar.
“The calorie content in this drink is equivalent to food for us to snack on, and the nutritional content itself is actually non-existent,” continued Garcia.
“Even though this milk has good nutrition, and there are lots of minerals in it, when mixed with Pepsi or soda the nutrients are certainly reduced,” explained nutritionist Harbstreet.

According to the Journal of Dietary Guidelines for Americans, they recommend that sugar intake for people over 2 years old should be less than 10% of their calorie intake.
So when someone consumes 2,000 calories per day, their sugar intake should not be more than 50 grams. Meanwhile, for the Pilk drink itself, just one glass contains 41 grams of sugar.
“Even though there is nothing wrong with consuming soda drinks with milk, many health experts agree that high consumption of soda, even diet soda, can trigger the risk of diseases such as obesity and so on,” explained nutritionist Pasquariello.
So they advise against drinking soda mixed with milk too often, because of the high sugar content.
