Diet and food choices have a big influence on health. For residents of the ‘Blue Zone’, this soup is the secret to their long life.
‘Blue Zone’ is a term that is familiar to people who are trying to uncover the secrets of longevity. Many believe that Blue Zone residents hold the key behind healthy living and long life.
The term Blue Zone was first introduced by researcher and explorer, Dan Buettner. Blue Zones is the term used by Buettner for five regions in the world whose residents have a higher life expectancy than average. The five regions include Okinawa (Japan), Ikaria (Greece), Nicoya (Costa Rica), Sardinia (Italy), and Loma Linda (California, USA).

Buettner has spent more than 20 years living with Blue Zone communities and finding out what makes them able to live healthy and long lives. Apparently, one of the secrets lies in the daily diet adopted by these people.
Reporting from Mirror UK (01/25), the Blue Zone area in Ikaria, Greece, has a recipe for longevity soup consisting of various vegetables and beans.
This soup does not use animal flesh at all, because it prioritizes fresh food ingredients. One of them is shallots, garlic, fennel (fennel), tomatoes and also black eyed peas or also known as cowpeas.
How to make it is quite easy, some researchers suggest sautéing onions with fennel until wilted, then adding beans, tomato paste, fresh tomatoes and water until the beans are submerged then cook for 40-60 minutes. To strengthen the taste, you can add salt and dill leaves before the soup is cooked.

This soup combination has been praised by various health experts because it is considered healthy and is the secret to long life for Ikaria residents.
“This soup is prepared from plants and nuts, ingredients such as cowpeas and other vegetables are sources of fiber and important nutrients for the body. For me, foods that are rich in fiber and low in fat have positive benefits for body health,” said Helen Bell , as a nutrition expert at Help & Advice.
Helen further highlighted that cowpeas are rich in fiber so they can keep the digestive system running smoothly. Additionally, these nuts make the body feel full longer and are rich in minerals such as folic acid and iron.
“Even though this soup cannot guarantee that someone will live a long life, I believe that food derived from this plant can contribute to a healthy and long life. After looking at the lifestyle of residents in the Blue Zone, we can see that the choice of diet, activity and Close social relationships play an important role in their lives,” concluded Helen.
