Is it true that eating instant noodles in plastic packaging, trigger disease?


KOMPAS.com – Are you among those who often serve hot instant noodles directly on their plastic packaging? Maybe ever considered it more practical.

However, this method is said to be able to endanger the health of the body.

Plastic and hazardous chemicals

Reporting from the Kompas.com page that aired on Thursday (07/11/2024), doctor and nutritionist Tan Shot Yen explained that instant noodle packaging plastic is not a heat -resistant container.

When exposed to hot water, plastic can release harmful substances such as bisphenol A (BPA).

BPA is a chemical compound that can interfere with the balance of the body’s hormones.

In addition, plastic packaging that is exposed to sunlight for too long can also increase the risk of releasing toxic substances.

The dangers of BPA for health

Researcher from Brin, Joddy Arya Laksmono, told Kompas.com, Thursday (7/11/2024) confirmed that BPA could disrupt the work system of the hormone estrogen. This substance can enter the body and cause negative effects on health.

BPA is known to have the potential to cause metabolic disorders and affect reproductive function.

Therefore, avoiding plastic containers when serving hot food is a safer choice.

Styrofoam and Risk of Cancer

Besides BPA, Styrofoam packaging is also at risk of releasing Stirene compounds when exposed to heat.

Stirene is known as a potential carcinogenic substance, which means it can increase the risk of cancer.

This type of plastic is often used as an instant noodle container in the cup. To avoid risk, it’s better to use a glass or ceramic container when consuming instant noodles.

Use a safer container

Instead of using plastic packaging or styrofoam, it is better to serve instant noodles in glass or ceramic bowls. This container is safer because it does not contain harmful chemicals.

Using the right eating utensils can reduce exposure to hazardous chemicals. That way, consumption of instant noodles can still be enjoyed without additional health risks.
