Considering the size of dragon fruit, it is not uncommon for some people to only consume half of the fruit and save the rest for another time.
However, storing cut dragon fruit requires special methods to keep it fresh.
How to store cut dragon fruit
The following is a guide to storing cut dragon fruit so that its quality is maintained:
1. Prepare clean knives and tools
Use a sharp, clean knife to cut the dragon fruit into two parts. Make sure the equipment used is free from dirt to keep the fruit clean.
2. Separate the fruit flesh
Gently remove the dragon fruit flesh using a spoon or a tool such as a melon baller. Make sure the seeds or pith are also removed if you don’t want to consume them.
3. Use an airtight container
Choose a clean and airtight storage container. Before use, wash the container with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly. This step is important to remove bacteria or remaining residue that could damage the fruit.

4. Line the container with paper towels
Line the bottom of the container with paper towels or a clean kitchen cloth. This will help absorb excess moisture that can cause the fruit to spoil quickly.
5. Arrange the fruit pieces
Arrange the dragon fruit pieces in a single layer in a container. Avoid stacking the pieces too full to ensure good air circulation and prevent the fruit from wilting quickly.
6. Close the container tightly
Make sure the container is tightly closed to create an airtight seal. This will prevent air from entering which can speed up the fruit oxidation process.
7. Add labels
Date Label the container noting the storage date. Dragon fruit that has been cut is best consumed within 2-3 days so that the taste remains fresh.
8. Store in the refrigerator
Place the container in the refrigerator, preferably on a shelf away from strong-smelling foods. The ideal temperature for storing cut dragon fruit is between 2-4 degrees Celsius
