How to eat oatmeal with a variety of variations


Kompas.com – Oatmeal is a healthy breakfast choice that is rich in fiber and nutrition. However, many people are confused about how to consume it.

In fact, always consuming oatmeal in the same way, causing boredom.

To avoid boredom and keep enjoying the benefits of oatmeal, there are several creative ways that can be tried.

1. Bake oat before cooking

One way to improve the taste of oatmeal is to bake it first. This process will enrich the aroma and give a more tasty and slightly sweet taste. The method:

  • Melt a little butter in a pan over medium heat.
  • Add OAT (can steel-cut oats or rolled oats) and stir until evenly distributed.
  • Bake for about five minutes until the color is a little darker and the aroma is fragrant.
  • After that, continue cooking as usual by adding liquid.

2. experiment with various fluids

Oatmeal is usually cooked with water, but using other liquids can provide an interesting variation of taste. Some alternatives that can be tried:

  • Milk: Make oatmeal softer and rich in taste, similar to rice pudding.
  • Tea: adding aroma and distinctive taste from tea like Matcha or Chai.
  • Coffee: Suitable for coffee lovers who want to combine breakfast with caffeine.
  • Broth or soup sauce: Ideal for the savory oatmeal version.
  • Carrot juice: adds to the natural sweetness and extra nutrition.

The recommended comparison of fluids and OAT:

  • Steel-cut oats: 1 part of oat with 4 parts of the liquid.
  • Rolled oats: 1 part of oat with 2 parts of the liquid.

3. Cook in large quantities

If you don’t want to cook every morning, make large amounts of oatmeal for the next few days.

Steel-cut oats can survive in the refrigerator and easily heated again. When heating, add a little water or milk so that the texture is soft again.

4. Experiment with topping tasty

  • Olive oil or chili oil, sea salt, and pepper
  • Lemon juice or vinegar for fresh touch

Oatmeal can also be the perfect container to spend food scraps in the kitchen. Some examples of materials that can be utilized:

  • A small piece of cheese or the remaining nuts
