Jakarta –
There are many everyday dishes made from coconut milk, from opor, rendang, tongseng, soto, nasi uduk, to vegetable lodeh. Likewise with desserts such as kolak, green bean porridge, sticky milk, and cendol ice.
Excessive consumption of coconut milk is not good for health. Because coconut milk contains high calories and saturated fat which can make your stomach feel bloated, your cholesterol soars and you gain weight.
After eating too much coconut milk, find out what you need to do to neutralize your body afterwards below.
How to neutralize the body from coconut milk foods
Reported by the Times of India and Business Insider, here are the things you should do after consuming too many coconut milk dishes which are actually fatty:
1. Avoid lying down
Not a few people are full and sleepy after eating coconut milk dishes. Even so, avoid lying down or sleeping afterwards. It’s better to sit up straight to empty your stomach faster, according to research.
Because lying down after eating is more likely to experience acid reflux, the worse of which is gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This happens because lying down puts pressure on the muscles which should keep stomach acid from rising.
2. Walk for a while
Walking also makes the stomach empty more quickly, although it may not reduce bloating in the stomach. When the stomach empties more quickly, stomach acid symptoms are less likely to occur.
Walk for at least 10 minutes. This way, digestion will be smooth, blood sugar levels will be balanced, and excess fat will be stored in the body less.
3. Drink Water
A glass of water after eating coconut milk helps calm and activate the digestive system. Water will break down nutrients in an easily digestible form and remove remaining waste products from coconut milk foods.
If you don’t drink it after eating, the small intestine will absorb water from the food consumed. This often causes dehydration and constipation. It is better to drink warm water.
4. Avoid Cold Dishes
It’s best to eat ice cream after eating coconut milk. However, this should be avoided, because it risks causing indigestion and bloating. This condition occurs because the digestive organs experience excessive pressure after eating a lot of coconut milk and ice cream
5. Eat Fiber-Rich Foods
Choose fiber-rich foods for your next meal, such as a variety of vegetables, fruit and whole grains. Quoting detikcom notes, fiber can be an alternative to improve the function of coconut milk as fat in the body. With fiber, some of the fat and sugar in coconut milk will be ‘captured’ so that it does not have an excessive impact on the blood and digestive tract.
