Paniki tastes a little spicy and savory because of the coconut milk mixture that is also used to cook this dish.

Even though it is known as a traditional Minahasan food, panici is currently not easy to find because the number of bats is decreasing.

The reason is that the natural habitat of bats is getting narrower, as well as fewer fruit trees, and massive hunting activities.

Paniki is now often found at certain moments, such as Christmas and New Year, traditional events and thanksgiving.

Some people also use the same panici spice to prepare chicken meat as a substitute for bat meat.
