Benefits of Durian for Health, Good for the Heart


KOMPAS.com – Durian season in Indonesia has arrived. There are starting to be lots of durian sellers on the side of the road.

This fruit is popular because of its distinctive taste and sharp aroma which is loved by many people in Indonesia.

However, not only taste and aroma, this fruit also has abundant nutritional content.

Durian is rich in fiber, vitamin C, potassium and B vitamins, as well as various plant compounds (phytochemicals) that have antioxidant properties, such as anthocyanins, carotenoids, polyphenols and flavonoids.

The following are some of the health benefits that can be obtained from consuming durian fruit:

Durian is high in vitamin C, functioning as a powerful antioxidant that is important for immune function.

Apart from that, the flavonoid content such as hesperidin, quercetin, kaempferol, luteolin and apigenin in durian also contributes to reducing the risk of disease. Thus, eating durian can help strengthen the body’s immune system.

Durian contains fiber, monounsaturated fat, and minerals such as magnesium and potassium which are important for heart health.
