Warm Wedang Ronde Recipe for the Rainy Season


KOMPAS.com – Wedang ronde is a traditional Javanese drink known for its warm ginger sauce and sticky rice balls filled with peanuts.

This dish is very suitable to be enjoyed during cold weather or the rainy season to warm the body.

With a combination of sweet and warm flavors, wedang ronde is often used as a choice to accompany relaxing time with the family, follow the recipe from the book “Frida’s Simple Recipes” (2018) by @Fridajoincoffee published by Kawan Pustaka.

Round Material

  • 200 gr white sticky rice flour
  • 25 gr sago flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 150 ml warm water
  • 1 tsp whiting water
  • Food coloring to taste
  • Water for boiling

Round Filling

  • 150 gr roasted peanuts
  • 75 gr palm sugar
  • Ginger Sauce Ingredients
  • 200 gr granulated sugar
  • 7 kaffir lime leaves
  • 100 gr Emprit ginger, crushed
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 liter of water
  1. Mix white sticky rice flour, sago flour and salt in a bowl.
  2. Pour in warm water and whiting water little by little while kneading until the dough can be kneaded.
  3. Divide the dough into several parts, add food coloring to taste.
  4. Blend the roasted peanuts and palm sugar until it becomes a paste, then form small balls for the filling.
  5. Take a little round dough (around 8 grams), flatten it, fill it with peanut balls, then round it again.
  6. Boil water until it boils, add the rounds, cook until the rounds float. Drain and add to the ginger sauce.
  7. Mix all the ginger sauce ingredients in a saucepan. Bring to a boil while stirring so that the sugar dissolves completely.
  8. Remove the ginger sauce from the heat, strain if necessary, then prepare to serve.
  9. Place the rounds in a serving bowl, drizzle with warm ginger sauce, and sprinkle with roasted peanuts. Enjoy while it’s warm!
