“Oatmeal is a food that contains complex carbohydrates, but this food does not trigger blood sugar to spike or fall,” he said further.

“Most people wake up or have difficulty sleeping at night due to various reasons. One of them is related to decreasing blood sugar levels or vice versa. So oatmeal is the right food choice,” said Marc.

Oatmeal also stimulates the hormone melatonin, which can improve sleep quality. Including rich in fiber and protein, so that a person feels fuller, complete with magnesium content which makes muscle tissue more relaxed.

Apart from that, oatmeal is easily digested by the body. The complex carbohydrate content in oatmeal helps increase levels of the tryptophan hormone which triggers drowsiness. Don’t forget that oatmeal can trigger serotonin which is believed to play an important role in a person’s sleep quality and sleep duration.

Dietitian Abbey Sharp from Toronto, Canada also agrees with this food menu before bed. He suggests eating oatmeal with fruit such as banana or cherry. You can also add almonds to yogurt which is suitable as a healthy snack before bed.
