Kastengel Recipe for 1 Kilogram, Dry Cake Menu for Christmas


KOMPAS.com – Kastengel or kaastengels including savory pastries that are easy to find during the holidays.

The surface of the kastengel is yellow thanks to the egg yolk smear. If you only have very small eggs at home, add 1/2 egg white and two drops of dark yellow coloring to the spread mixture.

The following is a recipe and method for making kastengel that you can try at home, quoted from the book “Economical Pastries” Ambarini’s work (2015) published by PT Gramedia Pustaka Utama.

Material:

  • 2 egg yolks
  • 300 grams margarine
  • 4 tablespoons powdered milk full cream
  • 200 grams of cheese cheddar (grate, let sit until dry)
  • 2 sachets Chicken flavored stock powder
  • 550 grams of medium protein wheat flour
  • 2 egg yolks for brushing
  • 50 grams of cheese cheddar for sprinkling

How to make kastengel

  1. Mix egg yolks, margarine, milk powder, cheese and stock powder, then beat until smooth. Add the flour, then stir until smooth using a wooden spoon.
  2. Take the dough, place it on a flat surface or table. Press the dough until it is 0.7 centimeters (cm) thick, then shape it into a rectangle.
  3. Coat the top of the dough with egg yolk, then sprinkle with cheese cheddar scar. Cut the dough into pieces measuring 1 cm x 3 cm.
  4. Arrange the dough pieces on a baking sheet, place in the oven. Bake at 130 degrees Celsius until the color is dark yellow.
  5. Remove from the oven, allow to cool before placing in a jar.
